Chasing since 1987. Have chased all of Central CONUS and Florida. Tornadoes seen in TX, OK, KS, NE, WY, CO, NM and FL. I've lost count of the number of tornadoes I have witnessed. Typical chase vacations last for 2-3 weeks plus quite a few "day" chases when time permits. Was part of Vortex Project both '94 and '95 along with STEPs 2000.

Chasing in Great Plains (TX, OK, KS, NE, MO, AR) since 1998 with MESO (2 weeks per year, every year).
Also since 1998, have been on dozens of chases from Fort Collins to the eastern CO plains and into western KS and NE, leaving few towns out there unvisited!  Have driven through 2" spongy hail, 1.2" solid hail, blinding dust, tumbleweed maelstroms, dust devils, severe winds, and nearly frictionless wet clay roads (never venture onto dirt roads if the storm is nearby and ready to unlease a downpour).

Experience - not enough! Am completely obsessed about the spring season and have two seasons serious chasing (15,000+ mi) across the plains stretching from near St Cloud, MN down to Spur, TX.  I chase for the whole experience, forecasting, nowcasting, verification, learning and beers in the little pubs across the plains, if you aint having fun, what’s the point? My poison; HP beasts at arms length – bring it on!

Chasing since 1997, interested in severe storms since I was hit by a tornado in 1984 (1st grade), and especially after meeting Ted Fujita at a tornado seminar in 1991 (8th grade).  As a small child, I was scared by thunder.  I still am.  First weather book/guide owned: Severe storms NOAA informational packet free from Golden Grahams cereal box (1984).
Last related book purchased:  Gill's Atmosphere-Ocean Dynamics (2003).  I am constantly in search of the prodigious power and beauty of nature.  It is a ceaseless disease I don't recommend for anyone wanting to stay sane. I chase a lot and I bust a lot, but every-so-often I am very lucky.  I love mesoanalysis too.

I've been chasing since 1997.  I started with my undergraduate chase group (VUSIT from Valparaiso Univeristy).  Went on two 10-day chases, innumerable day chases, and have been base support with VUSIT.
At CSU, I've been on a few day chases, as well as a week chase with John Fulton (CSU ATMOS grad).  I'm reliable base support.

My chasing experience -- I've been on 3 chases out here in Colorado -- 2 were duds, one led to sighting of a weak tornado near Scottsbluff NE. I possess good navigating skills.
  • 1993 Mercury Sable in good mechanical condition (capable of nearly 120 mph at last test, but I don't plan on using this capability unless it is a dire emergency :), but no air conditioning (and no comprehensive insurance, so I'll won't be core-punching)
  • eTrex Vista GPS unit with topographical base maps, as well as general USA base map with most country roads (even dirt) included
  • 2 FRS radios with subcodes (good for about 2 miles or so)
  • Weather radio
  • Kestrel handheld weather sensor with anemometer, thermometer, hygrometer (dewpoint and RH)

I started chasing in August of 1987. I have chased every season since then, and have taken chase vacations of at least a week in 9 or 10 of those years. I have chased in CO, WY, MT, SD, NE, KS, IA, OK, TX, NM. I have seen about 80 tornadoes and was lucky enough to participate in VORTEX '95. I also have probably "busted" more times than half the people on this list have chased...
